This practical course is designed for drivers working with the Total Mobility Scheme, or for anyone wanting to gain specialist training in transporting passengers with disabilities or impairments. Whether you're driving a mobility vehicle, shuttle, or accessible taxi, you'll learn how to support passengers with confidence, care, and compliance.

Full Course Price: (1748 + 15165): $575 +GST per person
Only Unit Standard 1748 : $325 +GST
Only Unit Standard 15165: $250 +GST

9:00am – 2:00pm (Full course)
9:00am – 1:00pm (1748 only)

Unit Standard 1748: Transport passengers with impairments or disabilities (Level 4, 6 credits)
Unit Standard 15165: Transport passengers in wheelchairs using total mobility vehicles (Level 3, 6 credits)

Tutor Credentials:
AllTrain courses are led by experienced instructors, with NZQA credit assessments carried out by registered contract assessors. All training is delivered to NZQA Unit Standard requirements, and credits are reported to NZQA on behalf of the relevant Workforce Development Council.

About This Course
This course gives you the skills, knowledge and practical experience to safely transport passengers with disabilities or impairments using a Total Mobility vehicle. It covers two NZQA unit standards and includes:
Theory
Rights of passengers under the Health and Disability Services Code
Understanding different types of impairments and disabilities
Communicating clearly and respectfully with passengers
Recognising seizure symptoms and other medical needs
Best practice for pickup, drop-off and assisting with mobility aids
Legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
Equipment types and safety requirements for mobility transport
Practical
Safe use of hoists, ramps and vehicle restraints
Securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices
Positioning passengers and checking seatbelts/restraints
Communicating with passengers during entry, exit and travel
Observing and responding to passenger needs
Handling luggage, personal items and assistance dogs
Managing real-life scenarios with confidence and care
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in your ability to safely and professionally support passengers with diverse needs, and meet all legal and safety requirements while you’re at it.

Important to Know
To enrol in this course, you must hold a full New Zealand driver licence
If you intend to complete Unit Standard 15165, you must also hold a current Passenger (P) Endorsement. This is a legal requirement for transporting passengers in wheelchairs using a Total Mobility vehicle
Please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable, practical clothing suitable for a hands-on training environment
A good attitude, willingness to learn, and a commitment to safe driving practices are essential
