16701 (Wheels), 16702 (Rollers), 16703 (Tracks) – 3 credits each

AllTrain WTR courses are assessed by Connexis-approved assessors. Assessment and reporting follow national standards set by Connexis to ensure competency in operating wheels, tracks, and rollers machinery for use on public roads in New Zealand.

About This Course

This NZTA-approved course provides the practical and theory-based training required to gain your W, T, and R endorsements so you can legally operate Wheeled, Tracked, or Roller machinery on roads in New Zealand.

Theory

  • Introduction to NZ road rules & on-road requirements

  • Basic health & safety and hazard awareness

  • How public roads are defined (yes, even beaches and carparks count)

  • Endorsement regulations and responsibilities

Practical

  • Safety checks and machinery overview

  • Equipment control and operation

  • Site safety and hazard testing

  • Assessment in a controlled off-road environment for each endorsement (W, T, and R)

Our WTR course is fully compliant with New Zealand laws and industry standards, covering the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, key Land Transport Rules (Driver Licensing, Road User, Tyres & Wheels, Vehicle Dimensions & Mass), Waka Kotahi NZTA requirements, and the Managing Work Site Traffic Guidelines 2021. You’ll gain practical, road-legal skills that meet national expectations.

Important to Know

  • You must hold a Full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence and bring it on the day

  • You may complete the course on a restricted licence, but you can't apply for the endorsement until you have a full Class 1 licence

  • Public roads include carparks, driveways, beaches, and yards without locked gates. Any area accessible to the public, even if not open to regular traffic

  • Completing the course does not automatically update your licence. You must apply for the endorsement through VTNZ or AA

  • All practical training is completed in a controlled off-road environment, safe for assessment and closed to the public

  • Not yet — you’ll need to apply for the endorsement at VTNZ/AA using your certificate.

  • Primarily in Palmerston North, but we regularly service Whanganui and the wider Lower North Island. Nationwide bookings are available on request.

  • We’ll support you through a re-sit if needed and give you feedback to succeed.

  • No – forklift training is separate. This endorsement applies to operating specific heavy vehicles on public roads.
