About This Course

This NZTA-approved course teaches drivers and loaders how to safely transport Dangerous Goods by road—including packaging, segregation, placarding, and emergency response. It’s also required to gain or renew your D Endorsement.

This is a theory-only course and can be completed in one day.

  • Dangerous Goods documentation (DG declarations, load plans, emergency info)

  • Requirements for Limited Quantities (DGLQ), consumer commodities, and small/excepted packages

  • Segregation rules and how to avoid incompatible load mixing

  • Placarding of vehicles and freight containers

  • What to do in an emergency or incident

By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in your ability to comply with Dangerous Goods legislation and apply for your D Endorsement.

Important to Know

  • You must hold at least a New Zealand Learner Licence to attend

  • You’ll need to take your certificate to VTNZ or AA to apply the endorsement to your licence (this has an additional fee)

  • You cannot legally transport Dangerous Goods until the D Endorsement is showing on your licence

  • Certificates are only valid for 60 days. Don’t delay applying or you’ll need to re-sit the course

  • Your D Endorsement must be renewed every 5 years if still required for your job.
