About This Course
A Class 4 licence in NZ allows you to drive rigid vehicles with a gross laden weight of more than 18,000kg. With AllTrain, you’ll gain the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on skills to handle large trucks safely and legally.
Day 1 – Logbook Training (US24089)
(1 day)
Fatigue causes, symptoms, and effects on driving performance
Work time and rest requirements under NZ law
Completing and presenting accurate logbook entries
Note: If you already hold a valid logbook certificate (within the last 12 months), this step may not be required.
Day 2–3 – Class 2 Licence Assessment (US17574)
(½ day theory + 2-hour drive)
Hazard identification and safe driving techniques for heavy rigid vehicles
Safe loading, stability, and penalties for unsafe practices
Pre-use walk-around inspections
Driving in urban, rural, and highway conditions
Reversing manoeuvres (straight line and 90° turn)
Parking, shut down, and securing a heavy truck
Practical drive and assessment
By the end of the course, you’ll be fully prepared to sit your Class 4 truck licence test and confident driving a heavy rigid vehicle on New Zealand roads.

Important to Know
You must already hold a Class 4 Learner Licence. To get this, you need to:
Hold a Class 2 licence for at least 6 months (or 3 months if you’re 25+)
Visit VTNZ or AA, pay the fee, and complete the medical requirements
A valid DL9 medical certificate may be required if not already on record with NZTA
Bring your logbook certificate (if completed within the last 12 months)
