AllTrain courses are assessed by experienced instructors, with NZQA credit assessments carried out by registered contract assessors. OSH Forklift training assessments follow Competenz standards, and credits are reported to NZQA on behalf of Competenz.

About This Course
This course gives you the skills to safely work at height using a forklift-mounted man cage (also known as a work platform, personnel platform or safety platform). It covers identifying and selecting the correct platform for the task, safe setup and attachment, and practical use in a real workplace environment. It includes:
Theory
Health & Safety at Work Act 2015
Legal responsibilities when working at height
Identifying a forklift-mounted safety platform for a specific task
Hazard identification, environmental conditions, and risk control
Manufacturer’s specifications and workplace procedures
Communication and safe work planning
Practical
Pre-operational checks of forklifts and safety platforms
Correct fitting and removal of a safety platform on a forklift
Safe operation while working at height
Communication between the forklift operator and personnel in the platform
Use and inspection of PPE, including harnesses and lanyards
Completing height-based tasks safely and correctly
By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and competence to safely use a forklift-mounted man cage in the workplace.

Important to Know
Participants must demonstrate competency to achieve the unit standard
If competency is not met, a re-sit or additional training may be required
This unit standard does not allow forklift operation on public roads
Forklift use on public roads requires the appropriate driver licence and a Type F endorsement
All equipment used on-site must be in good working condition and compliant
Harnesses, lanyards, and PPE used with the man cage must be certified and current
Participants must bring valid photo ID and required PPE (including a hard hat)

Yes. This course is assessed against NZQA Unit Standard 18409, Level 3, worth 4 credits. NZQA credits are registered upon successful assessment and request.

Your assessment will be carried out by a registered contract assessor who works with organisations like Competenz. They’re approved to assess against the required NZQA unit standards, and your credits will be officially reported once you’ve passed.

Valid photo ID
Required PPE, including a hard hat
Any site-specific PPE required by your workplace

If training is held at your site, you’ll need:
A compliant forklift
A certified man cage (safety platform)
Certified harnesses and lanyards where required
All equipment must meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.

Refresher training is recommended every three years, or sooner if there are changes to equipment, work conditions, or safety requirements.
