About This Course
This NZQA-recognised course is designed for people who need to understand and apply safe slinging practices for regular loads. It combines theory and practical learning to help participants work confidently around lifting operations and meet site safety expectations.
Training is practical, site-focused, and aligned with current industry standards. Participants complete real-world lifting examples and learn how to assess hazards before loads leave the ground.
Theory
Hazards, hazard controls, and lift planning
Site risks including people, vehicles, weather, and structures
Types of lifting gear
Working Load Limit (WLL) tables and capacity charts
Differences between WLL, SWL, and MBL
Safe communication during lifting operations
Load behaviour including swing and spin risks
Practical
Inspecting lifting gear before use
Selecting correct gear for different loads
Preparing and slinging regular loads safely
Using common sling methods such as basket, choke, and double wrap
Packing and dunnage techniques
Using tag lines to control loads
Removing gear safely after lifting
Basic rope knots used in load control
By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and practical understanding to safely assist with lifting operations on site.
