Course Details

Covering driver theory

  • Demonstrate procedures for driving a forklift safely and legally on a road.

  • Describe environmental factors affecting the safe driving of a forklift on a road.

  • Describe driving procedures and general considerations for driving a forklift safely on a road.

  • Describe the legal requirements relating to the driving of a forklift on a road.


Practical testing

  • Pre vehicle safety checks.

  • Stacking and de-stacking.

  • The safe operation of the equipment being used.

  • Re-fuelling, LPG, Electric and Diesel.

  • Safe parking and storage.

What you need to know

You cannot drive a forklift on the road, you must have an F endorsement on your driver licence. A road can be defined in terms as to any place that the public has access (by right or not). This can include beaches, shoulders and also a carpark or yard etc with no locked gate to restrict access.

  • An F endorsement (Forklift Endorsement) is required if you drive a forklift on the road. You will also need to hold a full licence to attain this endorsement.

  • An OSH Endorsement (Forklift Operator’s Certificate) is an operator’s forklift certificate that covers the core theory and basic driving competence that is required to operate a forklift.

  • A forklift training refresher in New Zealand is required every 3 years and no more than 3 years and 3 months after. If this is the case, the ‘Full’ course is required to be re-sat.

Points to note

It is the student’s responsibility to get their ‘F’ endorsement put on their license.

The student must take their issued certificate to a Driver licencing agency such as VTNZ or AA.

They will ask you to fill out and Application for the endorsement.

You must provide your Driver Licence.

You must provide your ‘F’ endorsement certificate-fully intact.

They will ask you to do an eye test.

They will ask you to pay the application fee of approximately $50.00- this is in addition to the course cost.
