Our Class 2 truck licence course is ideal for anyone wanting to upgrade their licence and start a career in heavy vehicles. This accelerated course is designed for drivers who already hold a full car licence and want to upgrade to a Class 2 licence (H2 licence). With training available in both Palmerston North and Levin, AllTrain makes it easier to complete your Class 2 Truck Course in Manawatū and Horowhenua area.

Location: Palmerston North & Levin (or off-site by arrangement)
Unit Standard: US24089 (Level 3, 5 credits), US17574 (Level 3, 7 credits)
Note: Training is available in Palmerston North and Levin for drivers across Horowhenua. This course can be delivered nationwide. Travel & disbursements may apply.

About This Course
Our truck driving course combines classroom learning, logbook training, and hands-on heavy vehicle driving. You’ll get guided support through the Class 2 licence theory test, practice safe loading and reversing, and complete your Class 2 Licence assessment using one of our trucks.
Day 1 – Class 2 Learner Licence
(½ day)
Prepares you for the official Class 2 licence NZ theory test at VTNZ.
Day 2 – Logbook Training (US24089)
(1 day)
Causes and effects of fatigue
Work time limits, rest breaks, and penalties
Completing and presenting compliant logbook entries
Day 3–4 – Class 2 Licence Assessment (US17574)
(½ day theory + 2–3 hour drive)
Hazard identification & risk reduction
Safe loading and stability (high centre of gravity, restraints, penalties)
Pre-drive inspections
Driving practice in urban, rural, and highway conditions
Reversing manoeuvres (straight line + 90° turn)
Parking, shut-down, and securing a heavy vehicle

Important to Know
You must have held a New Zealand Class 1 Full Licence for at least 3 months if you are 25 or over, or 6 months if you are under 25
Must have a current DL9 medical certificate (issued within 60 days of your Learner test)
Manual driving experience is strongly recommended
Once passed, take your certificate to VTNZ or AA to apply for your full Class 2 licence (additional fee applies)
Learner test resits are at your own cost
