About This Course
This course is designed for participants with previous lifting experience who need to safely operate an overhead gantry crane using radio remote or pendant controls. Training combines theory and practical workplace lifting scenarios, helping participants gain confidence operating equipment, controlling loads, and completing operator checks.

Hazards associated with gantry crane operation
Operator responsibilities and authorisation requirements
Pre-start checks and fault reporting
Lock out and tag out procedures
Gantry crane components and lifting terminology
Safe use of hooks, clamps, grabs, slings, magnets, and spreaders
Lift planning and communication methods
Recognised crane hand signals
Practical
Pre-start crane inspections
Slinging and securing regular loads safely
Lifting, travelling, unloading, and placing loads
Operating radio remote and pendant controls
Responding to hand signals, including emergency stop
Parking crane safely after use
Recording defects and reporting faults
Daily and weekly operator maintenance checks
By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence and practical understanding to safely operate an overhead gantry crane in the workplace.
