Duration: 8am – 3pm (approx)
Location: Palmerston North (or nationwide onsite by arrangement)
Unit Standards: 23966, 23960–23964 (Total up to 23 Credits)
Price: $475 +GST Per Person
Refresher Price: $400 +GST Per Person
Additional Practical Assessment: $150 +GST
Machine Hire (if needed): $80 +GST

Tutor Credentials:
Training provided by AllTrain, with assessment carried out by a PCANZ-registered contractor.

About This Course
This one-day course gives you the knowledge and practical skills to operate MEWPs in line with WorkSafe and NZQA requirements.
Theory
MEWP types: scissor, boom (self-propelled, trailer, truck-mounted), vertical lifts
Key safety features and PPE requirements
Operator responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act
WorkSafe and Best Practice Guidelines
Hazard ID and risk management
Inspection and certification requirements
Safe operating practices (weather, terrain, power lines, etc.)
Practical
Pre-start safety checks and setup
Operating two MEWP types (e.g. scissor lift + cherry picker)
Smooth and safe control: raise, lower, slew, extend, retract
Working within SWL (safe working load) limits
Emergency procedures and shutdown
Fault reporting and securing the machine
A practical assessment is completed on the day for two machines, typically a Scissor Lift and a Trailer-mounted Boom Lift (Cherry Picker). Additional machines can be assessed by request (subject to availability and extra cost).

Training is available at our Palmerston North yard or nationwide at your site
Machines used for assessment must be certified and safe to operate (if supplied onsite)

It’s recommended that you have some supervised experience using elevated work platforms (EWPs), but it’s not essential. The course is designed to support both new and experienced operators.

You’ll typically be assessed on two common types of MEWPs, usually a scissor lift and a boom lift (cherry picker). If you need additional machine assessments, we can arrange that too.

Yes! This course leads to NZQA Unit Standards, and your MEWP certification and credits will be logged on your Record of Achievement.

We run courses regularly in Palmerston North and can also come to your site anywhere across Manawatū or New Zealand, as long as your equipment is certified and safe.
