AllTrain: Working at heights

Students will learn how to demonstrate their understanding of the potential hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and the gear connected to it. Exhibit knowledge about safety harnesses, including their systems and associated equipment. Conduct a thorough inspection of a safety harness and demonstrate the correct way to wear it.

In situations where there is a potential fall hazard from a height, demonstrate the effective utilisation of a safety harness. Additionally, demonstrate awareness of the designated rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall.

A comprehensive training approach that not only covers fall prevention but also includes restraint techniques.

 

Course Details

The course content and unit standards covered are:

Basic

  • NZQA 23229 - Use a safety harness for personal fall prevention when working at height, Level 3, (4 Credits).

  • NZQA 17600 - Explain safe work practices for working at heights - Level 3, (3 Credits).

 Advanced

  • NZQA Unit Standards 23229, 17600 and 15757.

  • NZQA 15757 - Use, install, and disestablish proprietary fall arrest systems when working at height - Level 4, (4 Credits).

 

Please note: Unit Standard 23229 is the pre-requisite unit before you can obtain Unit Standard 15757. A practical assessment is also completed on the day for both

Need to know:

This course can be held at our yard or at your site nationwide.

For the advanced course, it is imperative you have had some supervised experience.

We will not sign you off if the accessor does not deem you competent or think you have understood the course content correctly.

Training and assessment People working towards, and being assessed against, this unit standard should note that work in the industrial rope access industry usually takes place at heights well above ground level and, therefore, requires a level of physical fitness and ability to work at heights.

If you are not deemed competent, you will have to re-sit the course.

Points to note

If we come to your site, all equipment needs to be in good working condition and have current certification. This includes any lanyards and harnesses.


Relevant facts

  • The student will receive a certificate to acknowledge their completion of the unit standard, and credits will be registered and logged on their record of achievement.

  • Students must bring a form of identification—a driver’s licence, passport, or birth certificate.

  • Students need to bring their PPE equipment, which includes harnesses and hard hats.
